TOP 10 INTERIOR DESIGNERS IN BOSTON

Looking to hire an interior designer in Boston? Given below is our review of the top 10 interior designers in Boston, MA.

CATHERINE AND MCCLURE INTERIORS

Boston is an epicenter of innovation, and that’s the same forward-thinking approach I take when creating original, modern spaces for my clients. My design DNA is rooted in DC, where I grew up admiring the area’s wide range of interior design styles. My childhood home, which looked like a rainbow exploded, had classic Victorian bones but was filled with a sophisticated mix of antiques and contemporary pieces for a style that was uniquely my mom’s. My family also traveled a lot—Thailand’s colors and textures particularly mesmerized me. These influences have made me passionate about giving my clients designs that feel fresh, inviting, and personal.

I made New England my home when I attended Colby College in Maine, and I became a Bostonian while pursuing my graduate studies at the New England School of Art and Design. Early in my career, I worked for two high-end, Boston interior design firms, eventually founding Rachel Reider Interiors in 2006. We opened our current South End studio in 2011 and have executed projects ranging from downtown Boston condos to suburban house redesigns to beach and mountain vacation homes. In my concurrent role as the Design Director for Lark Hotels from 2010-18, I orchestrated the renovation and design of 18 acclaimed boutique properties. The deep insight I gained into a hotel’s operational needs and guest experiences makes our firm well-positioned to execute unique hospitality environments from inns to resorts to restaurants.

SERVICES

Getting to Know You
We ask you all the questions: project scope, design preferences, lifestyle needs, budget, timing. You find out how we work and how we bill. If we click in terms of personality and aesthetics, we’ll sign a contract.

Designing Your Dream
With your information in hand, I draft floor plans, select surface materials and finishes, scour fabrics and furniture, and design custom pieces. My clients say the design presentation day feels like Christmas morning.

You Approve Design and Costs
Once you approve the design concept, we gather bids to complete the work. We present you with itemized cost proposals for each room. We work together on any needed design or budget revisions until you are happy.

Ordering and Managing
We take on all the heavy lifting here. We place all furnishings and materials orders, collaborate with custom workrooms, schedule all subcontractor work, ensure item inspections and on-time delivery, and plan for a seamless installation day. Many transactions take place during this phase. To provide you with transparency and a sense of control, we set you up with an online client portal where you can access all important documents and schedules in one place.

Installation Day
Staff members and white-glove movers swoop into your home to make the biggest visual impact with the least disruption to your life. We aim to have everything in place and ready to use by the end of the day.

SERVICES

RESIDENTIAL INTERIOR DESIGN SERVICES

The home is at once a place of nurturing, a platform for expression of our personalities and interests and an environment in which we share experiences with family and friends. At Duffy Design Group, Inc., it is our goal to create spaces that allow for all of these. Because our clients are diverse, it dictates that our designs be equally diverse and unique to each of them. Acknowledgement of the specific environment, both natural and fabricated is also an important factor of our design process.

COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN SERVICES

In a commercial space, it’s important to describe the brand from the moment a person walks through the entry door.  That initial experience is paramount and lasting.  At DDG, we make it our goal to ensure that happens and is consistently reinforced throughout the subsequent spaces.  We strive to complement the architectural envelope and integrate our design to it.  We also pay close attention to the function of each space and the safety of it’s occupants.  We incorporate the guidelines of universal accessibility and sustainable practices in every project.

Phase One: Design Study & Preliminary Design Concept
Duffy Design Group consults with you to determine the scope of your project, any particular concepts you wish to achieve and any and all functional requirements for the areas to be designed. This analysis allows us to come up with a program for your needs, which we shall present to you for approval before proceeding. Utilizing this program, we’ll begin to work out the design concepts. We’ll prepare a visual presentation, in loose format, including floor plans, color schemes, sketches and preliminary selections.

Phase Two: Design Development
Based on your feedback of this presentation, we begin to modify and develop the concept. We shall prepare plans, elevations, color/finish/fabric/material formats and furniture selections in greater detail. We refine other sketches, drawing or materials to communicate specific design solutions. We shall also prepare budget estimates for the work to be done.

Phase Three: Final Design and Project Planning
Once you have approved our development of the design concept and we have determined an overall budget we will complete finalized plans, schedules, furniture, lighting, finish and fabric selections and all other specifications necessary to implement the project. Should working drawings be required for interior construction and/or millwork we will provide them as part of this phase. At this time, we will also submit more extensive budgets for your approval.

Purchasing, Supervision and Installation Services:
Duffy Design Group provides purchasing services for our clients. We will process all necessary purchase orders with our vendors and sources of supply. We track all order acknowledgments, approve cuttings and samples, maintain contact with our manufacturers to speed your orders along, oversee all work in our custom workrooms, and coordinate trucking, shipping and receiving. We supervise delivery and installation of all items ordered through us.

SERVICES

THOUGHTFUL PROGRAMMING
We get to know you, your style, and how you want to use your space. We use this information to create a design that supports how you and your family live.

COMPREHENSIVE DESIGN
We believe in designing every last detail up front so all elements are well- considered and result in a complete and pulled together home for you to live in and enjoy!

METHODICAL PROCESS
We love data and hate surprises. We create all-inclusive budgets and detailed timelines to keep you informed and your project on track.

EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION
We keep communication efficient. We balance keeping you in the loop with not bogging you down with the minutiae (that’s our job!)

EXPERIENCED TEAM
We value (and cherish!) the relationships we’ve built over our last 10 years in business. They include experienced architects and builders, skilled crafts and tradespeople, knowledgeable reps, and passionate artists and artisans.

Plan
Getting to know you and your family, your aesthetic preferences and functional requirements is just the start. Thoughtful space plans and detailed budgets lay a solid foundation for the work ahead.
When renovations are involved, we collaborate with architects and general contractors from the outset. These projects benefit from our involvement early on in the process, allowing for careful consideration of the interior architecture and a more comprehensive design.

Design
Working from our finalized floor plans, we create detailed interior elevations, design custom architectural millwork, source materials, and specify finishes to create a thoughtful, beautiful base layer.

From there, all furniture, fabrics, lighting, floor coverings, window treatments, wallpaper, artwork and decor are considered, sourced and designed to create layered and cohesive rooms. Once all the details are finalized and the design is approved we move into the implementation phase.

Implement
We take care of every last detail of project management including the coordination of contracted labor and the logistics of ordering, tracking, receiving and storing furnishings.

The culmination is the final install when furniture and rugs are delivered and placed, art, lighting, and window treatments are hung, and all the final details are implemented for a cohesively designed home that is 100% complete and ready to be lived in and enjoyed.

PLATEMARK

Platemark was founded in 2006 by Craig Tevolitz and Richard Baiano in Boston’s Back Bay and is known for designing interiors with the needs of showcasing artwork in mind. Further and always to the needs of clients, we take a clever approach to dreaming up refined and elegant homes that are exceedingly livable.

We focus on luxury residential and “lightweight” commercial projects, aiming to design spaces that reflect your style.

Our projects include private homes, vacation properties, rural estates, urban town homes and condominiums. In addition to comprehensive interior designs for luxury residences, Platemark has designed retail art gallery spaces.

An award-winning interior designer located in Back Bay, Craig founded Platemark Design in 2006, after masterminding a smooth good-bye from a career in financial services. Interior design seemed a natural, welcoming and a rather wise transition. After all, and not surprisingly, he grew up sketching, fascinated with colors, form and proportion and playing out endless furniture combinations in his head like one would in chess.

SERVICES

Interior Design
We offer complete design services from conceptualization to installation, leading clients through our straightforward turn-key approach. This includes plans, furniture selection, customized interior solutions and working in collaboration with your contractor during the construction phase.

Artwork Integration
Art is our specialty. Our job isn’t complete until every piece is in place. We design for the specific needs of your collection and while respecting its communicative value. This includes specialized lighting, framing, customized display and storage, wall hanging systems, casework and storage for fine objects, installation and more.

Custom Furnishings
We design, detail and coordinate the fabrication of anything walls-in. This includes custom upholstery and furniture, case goods, built-in cabinetry, decorative moldings, exquisite soft furnishings like window treatments and soft walls, or anything else we can dream.

Household Transitions
Many of our clients are moving back to the city to enjoy the luxuries and perks of urban living. We actively manage such transitions to ensure an effortless experience to this new phase in life. Adjusting for the needs of a smaller footprint often requires careful considerations that we are quite sensitive to.

Home Automation
Our team of industry experts offer you a premium automation experience that will change the way you enjoy your home. This includes comprehensive home theater, entertainment, music, lighting and shade control, security, temperature control and security integrated with the current yet extendible technology.
